NANCY J. SCHNEIDER, photographer and mixed-media artist, has been a visual arts teaching artist for Lifetime Arts since 2013. In addition, she is currently a teaching artist with the Aperture Foundation and Lincoln Center Education.
Nancy uses art as a way towards understanding Nature—both of the outer and the inner/personal worlds. Recent exhibitions include showings at LIU Post in Brookville, NY and at the Pomonok Branch of the Queens Library in Flushing, NY. She was invited as a panelist at the Interdisciplinary Congress for the Research of the Imagination in Recife, Brazil.
Nancy received a Master’s degree in Studio Art/Photography from NYU and the Int'l Center of Photography; a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Art Education from the School of Visual Arts; and a BFA from Alfred University. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling at Long Island University.
I believe that art has the power to transform. Whether it be through the value and self esteem of what one creates or the energy of making a mark on paper it is an active approach towards taking who we are into a new realm of the unknown. Or it can just be the simple act of sharing one's story in a non verbal way. What is essential though in my teaching practice is to bear witness of my students and to be a mirror to them that what comes out of us is something to honor and hold with gratitude and grace. I have been a teaching artist since 1997 and have graduated from the art education teaching certification program at the School of Visual Arts in 1999. I have worked with various populations and all age groups through the various arts organizations that I work for. This includes 2 and 3 dimensional art mediums.
