Vitality Arts Project for Art Museums

Project Components & Partners

As part of the Vitality Arts Project for Art Museums Initiative, E.A. Michelson Philanthropy has awarded more than $3 million in grant funding to an additional 16 nationally prominent art museums across the country to launch a new series of arts programs for older adults 55 years of age and over. This new group of museums joins the nine museums that were awarded grant funding in July 2022 as part of this project.

Originally started by the foundation with targeted grants in 2013, E.A. Michelson Philanthropy has since invested more than $21 million for advocacy, training and funding of creative aging programs at art and history museums, performing arts organizations, botanical gardens, and community centers. Museum consultants Brian Kennedy and András Szántó are advising the foundation on its work to address ageism in American art museums.

Professional Development & Program Implementation Support

Through this initiative, Lifetime Arts will provide training, technical assistance, and four hours of consultation to all 25 museums as they prepare and implement six creative aging program series in each of their institutions beginning September 2022- August 2024. The consultation process will occur through video conference, telephone, or email and will cover a variety of topics including vision planning, partnership development, and curriculum feedback.
