As a teaching artist, I believe deeply in the power of the arts to transform lives by engaging students to be agents of positive personal and social change. Teaching helps me to become more compassionate and a better human which in turn improves me as a writer, filmmaker, and podcaster. For around 7 years, I have taught film classes for Tribeca Film Institute, BRIC Arts, Manhatten Youth and the Harlem Children's Zone. I also developed the first film curriculum taught at the Lincoln Center in 2015. For the last three years, I've taught a special comedy/drama writing/improv class in Sing Sing prison. This past summer, I taught my first podcasting class at Rikers Island via BRIC Arts. I often teach silent film classes which implore my students to examine their emotions and vulnerabilities and use them as springboards for screenplays. My pedagogical philosophy is to learn by doing not lecturing. I believe strongly in properly scaffolding information from one class to another… I love creation and I love teaching, what I do as it provides me connection and purpose.

In my teaching career, I have taught all ages of people in all different settings of life. I get special joy working with older people as I was raised in part raised by my Grandma (Grandmere is what I call her) and he's remains of the closest people in life. She's been in my films and we always talk about the arts together. Recently it dawned on me that I have never worked with senior citizens but that I get so much joy collaborating working with my Grandmere. I deeply appreciate the life experiences that senior citizens bring into the creative process and I want to harness that to be able to help them create beautiful stories.
