Ballroom/Social Dance: Saratoga County + Rockland County Office for the Aging

The following online course will be offered as part of the New York State Creative Aging Initiative. The Saratoga County Office for the Aging and Rockland County Office for the Aging will communicate registration details to the older adults in their county.

West Coast Swing, Mambo and More! Introduction to Social Dance from Lifetime Arts

Saratoga County: 6 Fridays, September 10-October 15, 2021, from 2:15pm-3:45pm ET
Rockland County: 6 Tuesdays, October 5-November 9, 2021, from 12:30pm-2:00pm ET

Stay social while apart and learn the basics of social dance from home! During this 6-week informative workshop, participants will learn the Mambo, West Coast Swing, Waltz and Merengue. All classes will begin with a gentle warm-up and end with a cool-down designed to improve muscle tone and balance. Participants will build their skills week to week while exploring different styles of music and corresponding dance patterns. Dancers will also learn the nuances of partner dancing and styling (No partner necessary, but always welcome!)

Participant Materials

  • A clear and open space, preferably without a rug
  • A high-backed chair nearby for balance, if necessary

About the instructor

Daniela Del Giorno is an experienced teaching artist, ballroom dancer, and program manager who’s passionate about bringing dance, theater, and music to both children and adults. She believes the countless benefits of ballroom and Latin dance should be accessible to adults of all economic backgrounds. In 2019, Daniela founded the Silver Shoes Dance Club, a social dance program for adults over 55.

Daniela enjoyed a long career with New York City’s Dancing Classrooms Program, where she can be seen in the Documentary Film, “Mad Hot Ballroom.” Daniela graduated from the The American Musical & Dramatic Academy where she studied musical theater performance and dance. She continued her studies at The Lee Strasberg Institute and the London Academy of Performing Arts.
