NYC Senior Center, Teaching Artist, and Arts Organization Training Update

Lifetime Arts is currently training teaching artists and staff at New York City senior centers and arts organizations how to plan, design, and deliver Creative Aging programming.

Annie Montgomery, Lifetime Arts’ director of education, led a training for senior center staff this month at the Brooklyn Public Library’s main branch.

Through our experiential, hands-on seminars participants learn about current Creative Aging research, trends, and practice areas. We also share best practices in curriculum design that acknowledges and avoids ageism and caters to diverse populations.

The teaching artist training sessions are aimed at those interested in working or who have worked with the New York City SU-CASA Initiative, a community arts engagement program that places artists- and organizations-in-residence at senior centers across the five boroughs of New York City.

The training initiative is funded by the New York Community Trust Foundation and in partnership with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Department for the Aging, LiveON NY, the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging at Hunter College, and all of the New York City arts councils.
