Shari Keith is a teaching artist who develops and provides creative art experiences based upon her theme of “Transforming Junk Into Treasure”.  She calls herself “The Junk Lady” and her projects employ found and discarded objects to enable students to explore using non-traditional materials in new ways to create art that is visually exciting and environmentally friendly. She provides workshops in mixed media and jewelry-making.

Shari holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master's degree in Education.

As a member of the 55+ crowd, I have been totally enjoying this stage of my life. I feel that I have freedom to explore my creativity and that my mind and intellect have reached a level of maturity that is exhilarating and wonderful. After working mostly with children, it is very fun to work with adults my own age and to see that indeed they find it extremely rewarding to engage in the creative process. Whereas children have many opportunities for exploring their creativity, there are not as many opportunities for adults. I am encouraged by the growing recognition of the importance and benefits of providing programs for the aging population and I would like to be part of this movement. I would like to be able to inspire and encourage older adults to discover and explore their artistic voices. My personal belief and experience is that this is an exciting time of life and the perfect time to be creating.
