Rev. Katalin Gyokeny, Teaching artist Bio for Creative Aging. How amazing is it to know that our brains are evolving at every age! Behavior, environmental stimuli, thought, and emotions cause neuroplastic change through activity-dependent plasticity, which has significant implications for healthy development, learning, memory, and even recovery from brain damage. To learn new things at any age and to be creative through the arts is my impetus in keeping mentally and emotionally fit and happy. I want to transmit my knowledge using my artistic and pedagogical skills to as many students of any ages and abilities as possible. I have an MFA (Fine arts) MSED (Art Education) and MA (Creative art therapy) and 20 years of experience.

I have worked with seniors in various settings such as senior centers, nursing home,s assisted living, adult education classes, continuing education, and libraries for 20 years both as an art educator, and art therapist. I like working with a population of all ages and abilities, providing art based services to improve the quality of their lives. Art is calming, stress reducing, an active meditation. It improves concentration, lowers blood pressure, induces a feeling of happiness. I like to promote such an activity.
