I began teaching ballroom & popular social dances in 2001, offering private and group lessons to adults....specializing in wedding couples' showcase dance. My training (early in age) includes tap, jazz and African jazz with ballroom study started in 1997. Added to my experience: a 'showcase' at the Copacabana(NYC), performance at The Wainwright House(Rye,NY) and earning 1st & 2nd place in the 1998 Fred Astaire TriStar DanceSport Championships competitions. For several years, with my professional trainer & colleague, we taught at the famous Stardust Dance weekends in the Catskill Mountain region holding classes of 80 to 100 adults per class. Concurrently, we held adult group sessions at the Greenburg Hebrew Center. I choreographed in 2005 the performance of The Cubist Works of Pablo Picasso at Yonkers International Baccalaureate World School (televised by News Channel 12) with repeated performance at the Grinton Library in 2006. Simultaneously, I instructed swing classes for all ages at Ardsley Union Free School, Ardsley, NY. Partnering with professional dancer Carlos Sampelayo in 2009, we headed the dance division of ‘Creative Aging': a senior citizen program (Seniors Come Out Swinging) produced by Lifetime Arts, Inc. held at the Grinton Library in Yonkers, NY. Students were taught Swing and Foxtrot completing the program with a live performance. In 2010 with associate Andrew Abrams, we headed a multi-generational dance program organized by the Health & Recreation Department for the town of Lyndhurst in NJ. Currently I teach at the Jewish Community Center in Scarsdale, NY with dance partner and professional teacher Carlos Sampelayo. As of November 2012, I became certified by the USISTD as an Argentine Tango teacher.
Teaching dance to our elderly gives me immense pleasure; their joy is inspiring. My goal is not to make them celebrity dancers, but to ignite forgotten talents or to lead someone to a new socializing opportunity through dance. Being a trained social dancer allows me to keep the skill within their reach & encourage their creative capacities. My special talent is the ability to re-design steps as needed because of limitations or challenges of motion they may have, leaving NO ONE behind. I offer a venue that stimulates their mind, uses their muscles and sparks their spirit… a doctor’s prescription…all through dance. I watch each student with awareness and wonder who I will resemble most when I’m elderly. Hourly fees for planning, preparation and instruction vary with each venue and are negotiable. Most wonderful compliment I ever received...... Feb 2013 "What I admired was the easiness and assertiveness with which you taught both classes, your indications were accurate and your interventions were right on the money".
